Men's winter barefoot shoes: one pair for the whole winter, no compromises

Frost in the morning, thaw at noon, and in the evening mud in the park and wet asphalt in town. Do you need a different pair of shoes for every winter occasion? Not any more. Modern men's winter barefoot shoes handle it all at once. They keep your feet warm and dry, don't slip and give your feet the natural freedom you're used to the rest of the year. That's why more and more men are choosing winter barefoot shoes.

How do winter barefoot shoes keep you warm?

There's still a myth that barefoot shoes are cold in winter. Thanks to the quality materials barefoot shoes are made from today, that's a thing of the past.

  • Leather is a brilliant natural material in this respect. It blocks the wind, holds body heat superbly, handles moisture with a water-repellent finish and gradually adapts to the shape of your foot. That's why leather shoes are so popular in winter.
  • The plush lining of most of our winter models warms you pleasantly from the inside.
  • The Flowsense™ non-slip winter sole with a deeper tread gives you a confident step on wet and snowy surfaces.

DualSystem™: insulation to suit the weather

Combined with the right insole, you get comfort in which your toes won't freeze even on a long walk. Our DualSystem™ lets you adapt the insole in your shoe to the current weather or to the comfort you need. All Skinners insoles are the same 3 mm thickness, so you can swap them in seconds.

  • The Classic insole comes as standard in our leather barefoot shoes. It's perfectly sufficient for ordinary autumn and winter days in the city.
  • The Thermal insole has a thermal insulating foil that stops the cold coming up from the ground and keeps warmth right at your foot. The ideal choice for damp, chilly days.
  • The Winter insole is the solution for anyone who feels the cold most. It combines a thermal insulating foil with a soft, warm layer of imitation wool that will make your feet feel wrapped in cotton wool.

Thanks to quality materials and interchangeable insoles, thousands of people now wear winter barefoot shoes and swear by them in the cold season. Your feet can enjoy natural freedom and space without you having to compromise on warmth.

Frequently asked questions

Are winter barefoot shoes waterproof?

Our winter models are made of leather or nubuck and most of them have water-repellent stitching. They handle wet asphalt, mud and snow. But they're not wellies or shoes with a membrane, so it's best to avoid deep puddles and waterproof the leather regularly.

What size should I choose if I wear warm socks?

Measure the length of your foot and choose your size from the size chart for the specific model. If you wear thick wool socks in winter or plan to switch to the Winter insole, leave a little more room in the shoe. Your toes shouldn't touch the front.

When should I use the Thermal insole and when the Winter one?

For ordinary days in town, the standard Classic insole is enough. When it's damp and chilly or your feet tend to get cold, put in the Thermal insole. For frost and long walks outdoors, the Winter insole with its warm imitation-wool layer is ideal. If you're looking for fleece-lined men's winter boots, Winter is the closest choice.

Will I slip on ice?

All the models in this article have the Flowsense™ winter sole with a deeper tread that grips even on wet and snowy surfaces. On smooth ice, however, no shoe can guarantee 100% grip, so slow down on days like that.

How should I care for leather winter shoes?

When you get home, let your shoes dry at room temperature, never on a radiator. Treat smooth leather with cream and waterproofing; clean nubuck (Farmer II) with a suede brush and waterproof it with a spray. Wipe off road salt with a damp cloth as soon as possible.

Two pairs, one winter

Having two reliable pairs of shoes to alternate between, in which you can manage a working day, a weekend trip and bad weather, isn't a compromise. It's the simplest path to comfort and to shoes that last longer. After a full day on your feet, the leather and lining need to dry out properly, and in winter one night is usually not enough. Ideally, alternate your shoes every day. Men's winter barefoot shoes give you warmth, stability on every surface and freedom of movement that your feet will get used to very quickly. Whether a milder autumn or a bitter frost comes along, you can easily fine-tune the level of insulation yourself with the Thermal or Winter insole.
